Global MBA

With new technologies coming out daily that allow us to talk with others around the world, do business over the Internet and travel faster and more easily, global business is becoming a paramount concern of many companies large and small. Getting an MBA in this field can be a great investment in a future career and allow you to work with people from all over the world. Cultural understanding, language skills and international business savvy will be just some of the skills youíll learn during your program to help you get the jobs you truly want.

Global MBA programs can have several elements that make them great for students looking to work on a more international scale. Most will focus coursework on topics that will be applicable to a future career in international business. This can include classes on issues like cultural sensitivity, managing people from other cultures, global economics, international business strategy and much more. Students may also find that they need to take additional language courses depending on the type of work they want to do and the region of the world that they want to work with. While having knowledge of a second language isnít always essential, itís often a great selling point on a resume.

Another element of global MBA programs is the opportunity to pursue study or internships abroad. This can help give students firsthand knowledge of the people and cultures theyíll be working with as international businesspeople and give them a chance to learn and study in a different setting. Some colleges offer exchange programs that can range from a few weeks to a few months in duration and will take students all over the world to places like Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, Israel and more. Those who plan on working in international branches or who think theyíll be working closely with people from a variety of foreign countries will be well-served by these kind of programs which can give them the confidence, knowledge and experience to be great managers and businesspeople.

There is no set duration for the length of a global MBA program, but most take about 18-24 months to complete. The time it takes you as the individual will depend largely on where youíve chosen to go to school, the method youíre getting your education through and whether or not youíre able to go to school full time. Accelerated programs can offer some advantages– especially to those going back to school mid-career– but like anything they have drawbacks as well. Programs like these, however, can make it easier for those who have to work while going to school to do so with much less stress and frustration.
