Manufacturing magnetic media, asphalt shingle materials manufacturing, perishable prepared food manufacturing and ornamental metal work manufacturing are the top employing fields in Alabama.

While being known for many things, one of the most noteworthy, Alabama is the only state with all major natural resources needed to make iron and steel. It is also the largest supplier of cast-iron and steel pipe products.

Information technology directors install, configure, and support an organization's local area network, wide area network, and Internet system or a segment of a network system.

They regularly maintain computer networks and related computing environments including both hardware and software. They also operate master consoles to track the performance of computer systems and direct computer network access and use.

They are required to evaluate the effectiveness of systems in order to improve their performance. Also, they must think through complex problems and develop a critical analysis of the situation and possible solutions.

Information technology directors should be able to articulate ideas and problems and think through problems and come up with general rules.

In order to be successful in the workplace, information technology directors must be reliable and believe in an agile approach to problem solving and deal with change.
