Technology Management Jobs and MBA Programs in Alaska

Those looking for careers as technology managers should consider the educational and employment opportunities in Alaska. There are currently 420 jobs for technology managers in Alaska and this is projected to grow by 15 percent to 430 jobs by 2016. Over the next 10 years, the state growth for technology managers projects to be less robust than the national trend that shows a 16 percent. In general, technology managers create and implement information systems for a client firm and supervise their maintenance.

State figures show that technology managers in Alaska earn $42 per hour or $88,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $57 hourly or $118,000 per year on average.

Also known as the Great Land, Alaska has a population of 698,473. It's population has increased 11.4 percent over the last 10 years. The state capital is Juneau. There were 452,986 total jobs in 2008 and workers in Alaska earned more than the previous year with an average annual income of $43,922, up from $41,081. The unemployment rate in Alaska was 8.0 percent in 2009. It went up by 1.5 percentage points since the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 24.7 percent. This is under the national average.

The top employing fields in Alaska include oil extraction, transportation, general merchandise stores and other general merchandise stores.

While being known for many things, one of the most noteworthy, Prudhoe Bay, on the northern Alaskan coast, is North America's largest oil field. One of the unique tidbits about Alaska is Agattu, Attu, and Kiska are the only parts of North America occupied by Japanese troops during World War II.

Technology managers should be able to read and understand documents and reports and articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, technology managers must have exceptional integrity and be reliable.
