Training in retail management helps students learn how to reach and communicate with potential customers and make the decisions that enable retail businesses to be successful. Graduates may direct advertising campaigns, maintain budgets, hire and train employees and make buying decisions. Courses will be taught in accounting, economics, marketing and promotion. Additional coursework will be available in retail operations management, strategic retail management, international retailing and buyer behavior. Graduates of an MBA program in retail management should emerge not only with the skills of the retail trade, but also with the ability to oversee a retail business. How long it takes to complete an MBA program will vary by the individual student, whether or not courses are taken full or part time, and the learning institution itself. On average, however, MBA programs take about two years to complete after first completing a bachelor's degree program.

Earnings for graduates of an MBA program in retail management will depend largely on their specialty, where they live, and their previous experience. Salaries for retail managers can vary widely depending on your level of experience and the exact position you're in but many professionals report income that is significantly higher than their non-MBA counterparts. Positions may be available as retail managers, retail buyers, marketing managers and a range of other fields that may or may not be directly linked to retail. Like most fields, retail management can be a valuable and in-demand field to pursue, especially at the MBA level.
