People considering careers as food service managers can find job and education opportunities in Utah. There are currently 980 jobs for food service managers in Utah and this is projected to grow by 28 percent to 4,030 jobs by 2016. With the national projections showing a rise of just five percent over the next 10 years, the prospects in Utah are better relative to the nation as a whole. In general, food service managers plan, direct, or coordinate activities of an organization or department that serves food and beverages.

State figures show that food service managers in Utah earn $26 per hour or $53,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $24 hourly or $50,000 per year on average.

Also known as the Beehive State, Utah has a population of 2,784,572. It has seen its population grow by 24.7 percent over the last 10 years. The capital is Salt Lake City. There were 1,702,493 total jobs in 2008 and workers in Utah earned more than the previous year with an average annual income of $32,050, up from $31,800. The unemployment rate in Utah was 6.6 percent in 2009. It went up by 2.9 percentage points since the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 26.1 percent. This falls short of the national average.

In Utah, the top employers are in activities related to credit intermediation, nonferrous metal production, sporting goods manufacturing and used car dealers.

Utah is known for having important landmarks. Utah mountain peaks, on average, are the tallest in the country. The average elevation of the tallest peaks in each of Utah's counties is 11,222 ft.-higher than the same average in any other state. One of the many things Utah is known for, Rainbow Bridge, Nature's abstract sculpture carved of solid sandstone, is the world's largest natural-rock span. It stands 278 feet wide and 309 feet high.

They regularly inspect work procedures and operational problems to establish ways to further optimize service or safety and monitor food preparation methods to insure that food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner.

They are required to look for ways to help others. Also, they must respond to the actions of other and coordinate activities with them.

Food service managers must be able to articulate ideas and problems. They should also have the ability to listen to and understand others in meetings.

In order to be successful in the workplace, food service managers must have exceptional integrity and be able to take change and lead.
