People considering careers as real estate brokers can find job and education opportunities in Virginia. There are currently 1,110 jobs for real estate brokers in Virginia and national projections show the job pool increasing by eight percent over the next 10 years. In general, real estate brokers operate real estate offices, or work for commercial real estate firms, overseeing real estate transactions.

State figures show that real estate brokers in Virginia earn $43 per hour or $88,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $37 hourly or $77,000 per year on average.

Also known as the Old Dominion, Virginia has a population of 7,882,590. It has seen its population grow by 11.4 percent over the last 10 years. The capital is Richmond. There were 4,916,428 total jobs in 2008 and workers in Virginia earned more than the previous year with an average annual income of $44,075, up from $43,158. The unemployment rate in Virginia was 6.7 percent in 2009. It went up by 2.8 percentage points since the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 29.5 percent. This surpasses the national average.

While being known for many things, one of the most noteworthy, Virginia's largest private employer is also the world's largest ship building yard. One of the unique tidbits about Virginia is the world's only oyster museum is on Chincoteague Island.

Real estate brokers should be able to articulate ideas and problems and listen to and understand others in meetings.

In order to be successful in the workplace, real estate brokers must be thorough and dependable and be reliable.
