New Mexico has plenty of educational and career opportunities for real estate brokers. The job pool for real estate brokers in New Mexico is shrinking and currently sits at 330. A projected decline in the number of jobs of five percent will make the figure 1,020 jobs by 2016. Prospects are significantly worse for real estate brokers nationally when compared to the state trend. National projections show an increase of eight percent over the next 10 years. Real estate brokers operate real estate offices, or work for commercial real estate firms, overseeing real estate transactions.

Real estate brokers earn $36 per hour or $75,000 per year on average in New Mexico. Nationally, their income is $37 hourly or $77,000 per year on average.

With a population of 2,009,671, New Mexico, also called The Land of Enchantment, has grown by 10.5 percent in the last 10 years. The state capital is Santa Fe. There were a total of 1,117,433 jobs in 2008 and people in New Mexico earned more than the previous year as the average annual income was $33,389, up from $32,093. New Mexico has many unique characteristics, but one fun fact in particular is Lakes and Rivers make up only .002% of the state's total surface area. The lowest water-to-land ratio of all 50 states. Most of New Mexico's lakes are man-made reservoirs. A dam on the Rio Grande formed the Elephant Butte Reservoir the state's largest lake.
