There are many career and education opportunities for operations managers in Illinois. There are currently 56,900 jobs for operations managers in Illinois and that number is growing. A one percent bump in the number of jobs is projected to put the figure at 54,790 by 2016. This is above a steady national projection. State figures show that operations managers in Illinois earn $55 per hour or $115,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $52 hourly or $107,000 per year on average.

Home to 12,910,409 people, Illinois, known as Land of Lincoln, has grown by 4.0 percent in the last 10 years. Springfield is the state capital. In 2008, the total number of jobs was 7,657,328 and the average annual income in Illinois was $42,540, which is up from $41,720 the previous year. In Illinois, the unemployment rate went up by 3.7 percentage points to 10.1 percent in 2009 from the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 26.1 percent, which is under the national average.

In order to be successful in the workplace, operations managers must be reliable and be able to take change and lead.
