A projected rise of 11 percent in employment opportunities will make the figure 2,250 jobs by 2016. This exceeds the national growth trend for hotel managers. National projections show a rise of just four percent over the next 10 years. Hotel managers plan, direct, or coordinate activities of an organization or department that provides lodging and other accommodations.

Hotel managers earn $34 per hour or $69,000 per year on average in New York. Nationally, their income is $25 hourly or $52,000 per year on average.

Nicknamed the Empire State, New York has a population of 19,541,453, which has grown by 3.0 percent in the last 10 years. The state capital is Albany. There were a total of 11,289,001 jobs in 2008 and people in New York earned more than the previous year as the average annual income was $48,809, up from $47,628. The unemployment rate in New York was 8.4 percent in 2009, which has grown by 3.1 percentage points since the previous year. Roughly 27.4 percent of New York residents have college degrees, which is lower than the national average.

Hotel managers should be able to listen to and understand others in meetings and read and understand documents and reports.

In order to be successful in the workplace, hotel managers must believe in cooperation and coordination and have strong self control in the face of challenging situations.
