General Management Jobs and MBA Programs in Indiana

Indiana has plenty of educational and career opportunities for general managers. Currently at 24,540, the job pool for general managers in Indiana is on the decline. A three percent dip in the number of jobs is projected to put the figure at 24,270 by 2016. This is below a steady national projection. In general, general managers create and execute project work plans and revise to meet changing needs and identify resources needed to complete project.

State figures show that general managers in Indiana earn $50 per hour or $104,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $52 hourly or $107,000 per year on average.

Indiana, nicknamed the Hoosier State, has seen its population grow 5.6 percent to 6,423,113 over the last decade. Indianapolis is the state capital. In 2008, the total number of jobs was 3,718,148 and the average annual income in Indiana was $34,543, which is up from $33,702 the previous year. Unemployment increased to 10.1 percent in 2009, a jump of 4.3 percentage points from the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 19.4 percent, which is under the national average.

Manufacturing, primary metal manufacturing, iron mills manufacturing and motor vehicle transmission train parts manufacturing are the top employing fields in Indiana.

One of the many things Indiana is known for, Most of the state's rivers flow south and west, eventually emptying into the Mississippi. However, the Maumee flows north and east into Lake Erie. Lake Wawasee is the states largest natural lake. Indiana has many unique characteristics, but one fun fact in particular is Crawfordsville is the home of the only known working rotary jail in the United States. The jail with its rotating cellblock was built in 1882 and served as the Montgomery County jail until 1972. It is now a museum.

General Management

While working, they direct an organization's financial planning to fund operations and increase efficiency. Also, they monitor businesses to insure that they furnish needed services while staying within budgetary limits.

They are required to speak clearly and communicate with others and listen well to others and take in their information and issues.

General managers must be able to listen to and understand others in meetings. They should also have the ability to articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, general managers must be reliable and be able to take change and lead.
