People considering careers as general managers can find job and education opportunities in Hawaii. There are currently 9,010 jobs for general managers in Hawaii and that number is on the decline. A one percent dip in the number of jobs is projected to put the figure at 8,490 by 2016. This is below a steady national projection. In general, general managers create and execute project work plans and revise to meet changing needs and identify resources needed to complete project.

State figures show that general managers in Hawaii earn $46 per hour or $96,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $52 hourly or $107,000 per year on average.

Home to 1,295,178 people, Hawaii, known as Aloha State, has grown by 6.9 percent in the last 10 years. The capital is Honolulu. In 2008, the total number of jobs was 873,749 and the average annual income in Hawaii was $42,078, which is up from $40,924 the previous year. In Hawaii, the unemployment rate went up by 2.8 percentage points to 6.8 percent in 2009 from the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 26.2 percent, which is under the national average.

In Hawaii, the top employers are in hotels, clothing accessories stores, full-service restaurants and clothing stores.

Having known landmarks is a staple for Hawaii. Two of the tallest mountains in the Pacific - Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa - dominate the center of the island. Most of the world's macadamia nuts are grown on the island. While being known for many things, one of the most noteworthy, Haleakala Crater (Ha-lay-ah-ja-lah), is the world's largest dormant volcano.

General managers must be able to listen to and understand others in meetings. They should also have the ability to articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, general managers must be reliable and be able to take change and lead.
