New York is a good place to settle for engineering managers as there are many educational and career opportunities. At 7,630, the number of jobs in New York for engineering managers is projected to drop one percent to 7,840 jobs by 2016. This is opposite the national trend for engineering managers, which sees the job pool growing at six percent over the next 10 years. In general, engineering managers plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as architecture and engineering or research and development in these fields.

State figures show that engineering managers in New York earn $65 per hour or $134,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $58 hourly or $120,000 per year on average.

Nicknamed the Empire State, New York has a population of 19,541,453. It has grown by 3.0 percent in the last 10 years. Albany is the state capital. There were 11,289,001 total jobs in 2008 and workers in New York earned more than the previous year with an average annual income of $48,809, up from $47,628. The unemployment rate in New York was 8.4 percent in 2009. It went up by 3.1 percentage points since the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 27.4 percent. This is below the national average.

Securities contracts intermediation, investment banking dealing, notions merchant wholesalers and real estate are the top employing fields in New York.

While being known for many things, one of the most noteworthy, New York's largest lake in Oneida measures 79.8 square miles. One of the unique tidbits about New York is The Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan is the only school in the world offering a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing.

While working, they recruit employees and evaluate their work, as well as oversee the development and maintenance of staff. Also, they talk with management and marketing staff to consider project specifications.

They are required to respond to the actions of others and coordinate activities with them and write well.

Engineering managers must be able to read and understand documents and reports. They should also have the ability to articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, engineering managers must have exceptional integrity and be reliable.
