Louisiana has an abundance of educational and career opportunities for engineering managers. In Louisiana, there are currently 1,700 jobs for engineering managers and this is projected to grow by 17 percent to 1,890 jobs by 2016. With the national projections showing a rise of just six percent over the next 10 years, the prospects in Louisiana are better relative to the nation as a whole. In general, engineering managers plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as architecture and engineering or research and development in these fields.

State figures show that engineering managers in Louisiana earn $52 per hour or $108,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $58 hourly or $120,000 per year on average.

Nicknamed the Pelican State, Louisiana is home to 4,492,076 people. It has seen its population grow by 0.5 percent over the last 10 years. The capital is Baton Rouge. There were 2,576,960 total jobs in 2008 and workers in Louisiana earned more than the previous year with an average annual income of $36,091, up from $35,340. The unemployment rate in Louisiana was 6.8 percent in 2009. It went up by 2.3 percentage points since the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 18.7 percent. This falls short of the national average.

In Louisiana, the top employers are in petroleum products manufacturing, petroleum refineries, basic chemical manufacturing and natural gas liquid extraction.

In order to be successful in the workplace, engineering managers must have exceptional integrity and be reliable.
