Engineering Jobs and MBA Programs in Hawaii

Many educational and employment opportunities are available for engineering managers in Hawaii. The job pool for engineering managers in Hawaii is growing and currently sits at 530. A seven percent bump in the number of jobs is projected to put the figure at 650 by 2016. This exceeds the national growth trend for engineering managers. National projections show a rise of just six percent over the next 10 years. Engineering managers plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as architecture and engineering or research and development in these fields.

The income for engineering managers is $51 per hour or $106,000 per year on average in Hawaii. Nationally, their income is $58 hourly or $120,000 per year on average.

Hawaii, nicknamed the Aloha State, has seen its population grow 6.9 percent to 1,295,178 over the last decade. The state capital is Honolulu. In 2008, the total number of jobs was 873,749 and the average annual income in Hawaii was $42,078, which is up from $40,924 the previous year. Unemployment increased to 6.8 percent in 2009, a jump of 2.8 percentage points from the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 26.2 percent, which is under the national average.

The top employing fields in Hawaii include hotels, clothing accessories stores, full-service restaurants and clothing stores.

Having known landmarks is a staple for Hawaii. Two of the tallest mountains in the Pacific - Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa - dominate the center of the island. Most of the world's macadamia nuts are grown on the island. While being known for many things, one of the most noteworthy, Haleakala Crater (Ha-lay-ah-ja-lah), is the world's largest dormant volcano.

Engineering managers plan, direct, or coordinate activities in such fields as architecture and engineering or research and development in these fields.

While working, they recruit employees and evaluate their work, as well as oversee the development and maintenance of staff. Also, they talk with management and marketing staff to consider project specifications.

They are required to respond to the actions of others and coordinate activities with them and write well.

Engineering managers must be able to read and understand documents and reports. They should also have the ability to articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, engineering managers must have exceptional integrity and be reliable.
