Business Economics Jobs and MBA Programs in West Virginia

Controllers can find success in West Virginia as the state has plenty of educational and employment prospects. For controllers, there are 1,560 jobs in West Virginia and national projections show the job pool increasing by seven percent over the next 10 years. In general, controllers conduct research, prepare reports and formulate plans to aid in solution of economic problems arising from production and distribution of goods and services.

State figures show that controllers in West Virginia earn $34 per hour or $70,000 per year on average. In the U.S. as a whole, their income is $53 hourly or $110,000 per year on average.

West Virginia, also known as the Mountain State, is home to 1,819,777 people. It has seen its population grow by 0.6 percent over the last 10 years. The capital is Charleston. There were 934,944 total jobs in 2008 and workers in West Virginia earned more than the previous year with an average annual income of $31,634, up from $30,121. The unemployment rate in West Virginia was 7.9 percent in 2009. It went up by 3.6 percentage points since the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 14.8 percent. This falls short of the national average.

In West Virginia, the top employers are in bituminous coal underground mining, plastics material manufacturing, pipeline transportation and pipeline transportation of natural gas.

While being known for many things, one of the most noteworthy, the world's largest sycamore tree is located on the Back Fork of the Elk River in Webster Springs. One of the unique tidbits about West Virginia is West Virginia is the only state in the Union to have acquired its sovereignty by proclamation of the President of the United States.

Controllers should be able to evaluate problems as they arise and articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, controllers must have exceptional integrity and be able to absorb the factors involved and a problem and provide a well thought out solution.
