Business Economics Jobs and MBA Programs in Alaska

The education and job opportunities are plentiful for controllers in Alaska. In Alaska, there are currently 1,130 jobs for controllers and the national job pool is slated to rise by seven percent over the next 10 years. Controllers conduct research, prepare reports and formulate plans to aid in solution of economic problems arising from production and distribution of goods and services.

Controllers earn $41 per hour or $84,000 per year on average in Alaska. Nationally, their income is $53 hourly or $110,000 per year on average.

Nicknamed the Great Land, Alaska has a population of 698,473, which has grown by 11.4 percent in the last 10 years. The state capital is Juneau. There were a total of 452,986 jobs in 2008 and people in Alaska earned more than the previous year as the average annual income was $43,922, up from $41,081. The unemployment rate in Alaska was 8.0 percent in 2009, which has grown by 1.5 percentage points since the previous year. Roughly 24.7 percent of Alaska residents have college degrees, which is lower than the national average.

The top employing fields in Alaska include oil extraction, transportation, general merchandise stores and other general merchandise stores.

One of the many things Alaska is known for, Prudhoe Bay, on the northern Alaskan coast, is North America's largest oil field. Alaska has many unique characteristics, but one fun fact in particular is Agattu, Attu, and Kiska are the only parts of North America occupied by Japanese troops during World War II.

Controllers should be able to evaluate problems as they arise and articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, controllers must have exceptional integrity and be able to absorb the factors involved and a problem and provide a well thought out solution.
