Massachusetts, nicknamed the Bay State, has seen its population grow 3.9 percent to 6,593,587 over the last decade. The state capital is Boston. In 2008, the total number of jobs was 4,251,139 and the average annual income in Massachusetts was $50,897, which is up from $49,644 the previous year. Unemployment increased to 8.4 percent in 2009, a jump of 3.1 percentage points from the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 33.2 percent, which is above the national average.

The top employing fields in Massachusetts include brokers, portfolio management, control instruments manufacturing and nautical system manufacturing.

One of the many things Massachusetts is known for, Massachusetts holds the two largest cites in New England, Boston, the largest, and Worcester. Business administrators must be able to listen to and understand others in meetings. They should also have the ability to articulate ideas and problems.

In order to be successful in the workplace, business administrators must be reliable and be able to take change and lead.
