Business administration ranges from operations to management of companies or organizations. Those looking to pursue a degree in this field will find jobs with companies or organizations looking for someone to oversee operations spanning purchasing, personnel, use of resources and policy creation. With a degree in this field, students can find a whole array of careers available to them in nearly every industry, with opportunities ranging from operations management to sales to consulting and project director positions. Business administration can be a valuable and in-demand field to pursue, especially at the MBA level.
Students will find that the training required for a career in business administration is designed to provide theoretical studies and practical experiences that enhance students' abilities to serve as effective leaders in contemporary organizations. Students are expected to apply principles studied in their professional workplaces throughout the course of the program. Primary courses will be taught in probability, statistics, financial accounting, managerial accounting and finance, economics, marketing, operations management, managing people, use of information technology and business law. Additional coursework will be available in basic and advanced business practices that will allow students to translate their work from the classroom to the office. Graduates of an MBA program in business administration should emerge not only with the ability to understand how the financial world works, but also with the ability to take that knowledge and apply it to a specific business. How long it takes to complete an MBA program will vary by the individual student, whether or not courses are taken full or part time, and the learning institution itself. On average, however, MBA programs take about two years to complete after first earning a bachelor's degree.
The salary that graduates of an MBA program in business administration will make will depend largely on what area of study they choose to specialize in, where they live, and their previous experience in the field. While there is no guarantee of a specific salary, many MBA level graduates in the field report annual salaries of $92,000. These earnings come from careers in a wide range of industries from health care to traditional business. Positions may be available in management, marketing, finance, risk management, entrepreneurship and a range of other business related fields that may or may not be directly related to business administration. Many graduates will find themselves poised to take on executive-level positions for which they previously had not been qualified.
