North Dakota has plenty of educational and career opportunities for financial managers. Figures show 1,220 jobs for financial managers in North Dakota and according to national projections, the job pool will rise by seven percent over the next 10 years. Financial managers conduct research, prepare reports and formulate plans to aid in solution of economic problems arising from production and distribution of goods and services.

The income for financial managers is $41 per hour or $85,000 per year on average in North Dakota. Nationally, their income is $53 hourly or $110,000 per year on average.

North Dakota, nicknamed the Flickertail State, has seen its population grow 0.7 percent to 646,844 over the last decade. Bismarck is the state capital. In 2008, the total number of jobs was 498,718 and the average annual income in North Dakota was $39,874, which is up from $36,678 the previous year. Unemployment increased to 4.3 percent in 2009, a jump of 1.1 percentage points from the previous year. The number of residents with a college degree is 22.0 percent, which is under the national average.

Farm product raw material merchant wholesalers, farm machinery merchant wholesalers, lawn equipment stores and farm supply stores are the top employing fields in North Dakota.

One of the many things North Dakota is known for, Devils Lake is the largest natural body of water in North Dakota. Devils Lake derives its name from the Native American name Miniwaukan. Early explorers incorrectly translated the word to mean Bad Spirit. Bolstered by the many legends of drowned warriors and lake monsters the name evolved into Devils Lake. This very fertile prairie lake grows large numbers of the fish known as walleye, northern pike, and white bass. The lake has earned the reputation of being the Perch Capital of the World. North Dakota has many unique characteristics, but one fun fact in particular is Dakota Gasification Company in Beulah is the nation's only synthetic natural gas producer.

While working, they advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives and actions and prepare financial statements, business activity reports, financial forecasts and reports required by regulatory agencies.

They are required to manage and maintain budgets and other financial resources. Also, they must listen well to others and take in their information and issues.

Financial managers should be able to articulate ideas and problems and read and understand documents and reports.

In order to be successful in the workplace, financial managers must have exceptional integrity and be reliable.
